E. Flahavans & Sons, based in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford has won the 'Life on the Go’ award for their new Quick Oats range at last night’s prestigious Bord Bia Food and Drink Industry awards held at the Mansion House, Dublin.
Flahavan’s was the recipient of the 'Life on the Go’ honour, representing innovative products designed to meet the trend to help people cope with the time and lifestyle demands placed on their busy days.
Speaking after the awards, John Noonan, Sales and Marketing director, Flahavan’s said, "We are delighted to accept this award in the 'Life on the Go' category for our Quick Oats range. This range reflects the changing nature of breakfast for our consumers. As traditional breakfast is becoming more fragmented, people are spending longer times commuting to work, dropping children to school and generally leading busier lives. We at Flahavan’s recognise that people are still looking for a quick and nutritious breakfast that may be consumed outside the home, often in the office environment.
"The Quick Oats range has been developed to meet the need of consumers giving the convenience of easier and faster preparation, portability and taste without losing the health benefits of porridge", he continued.
Flahavan’s Quick Oats range includes four varieties; Microwaveable Quick Oats in drum and sachet forms and portable porridge in a pot, original or strawberry flavours. The range is a low-calorie, low GI option that provides a quick and nutritious alternative for people "on the go".
John Flahavan, Chairman of Flahavan’s, said, "We at Flahavan’s are delighted to accept this award on behalf of all the employees of the company. My thanks to Bord Bia, we are very proud and honoured to be the recipient of an award that reflects our commitment to innovative product development and meeting the changing needs of our consumers."
Flahavan’s distinctive texture and taste come from the unique milling process and the sourcing of oats, which are all grown locally. Flahavan's has been operating in Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford for over 200 years, spanning six generations, making it one of Ireland’s longest family-run businesses.
Over 400 companies in the Irish Food and Drinks Industry were present at the event, to celebrate the energy and dynamism that the industry represents. The award categories were based on six consumer lifestyle trends identified by Bord Bia. These recognise current consumer needs and reflect the ways in which companies have responded to the trends through product innovation, branding and communications.
