Over 100,000 readers of Delicious magazine in the UK are about to learn how to incorporate Flahavan’s oats into their recipes. The magazine commissioned famed chef, broadcaster and author, Rachel Allen to sample the wholesome goodness of Flahavan’s oats when she visited the mill last week in Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford. The visit was part of a special feature for the leading UK recipe magazine, highlighting the journey that oats make from the oatfield to the kitchen.
As part of Rachel’s full Flahavan’s experience, she visited a local oat supplier accompanied by company chairman, John Flahavan and John Noonan, Sales & Marketing Director, who highlighted the use of locally grown oats by the mill. Next stop on Rachel’s tour was to visit the mill itself where the oats are cleaned, kilned and dehulled giving them their Flahavan’s distinctive flavour and texture.
Once in the Flahavan’s home kitchen, Rachel then prepared three tasty oat-based recipes; Rhubard Crumble, Oaty Shortbread and Crunchy Nutty Granola, details of which will be published in a future edition of Delicious magazine.
John Flahavan’s, Chairman of the famous family-run mill, said, “As a professional chef, and a busy mother, Rachel recognises the importance of healthy eating and the role that oats play in diets. Eating a healthy breakfast is essential and porridge provides a nutrient-rich, low fat and low calorie start to the day.
Rachel has always been a big supporter of Irish products and we were delighted to welcome her to Kilmacthomas.”
